The Independence Project
Independence offers a metaverse of open-source websites that work synergistically to provide turnkey solutions for businesses, projects and initiatives.
At the heart of each of our digital assets — starting with our two beta projects, va.org and djiboutian.com — is the promise of true democracy.
powered by our VISION of a future unleashed by blockchain.
Blockchain technology forms the soul of The Independence Project. At a fundamental level, our project is geared to find solutions that seek independence from central authority, because we believe that centralization of power is the single greatest impediment to the working of a democracy.
Today, distrust is a powerfully disturbing word. Governments cannot trust the public, and the public has little trust in their elected representatives. The process of building trust (or, building it back) is mostly a foregone conclusion since every democracy by design takes this trust for granted. And by so doing, takes us (the public) for granted.
We do not think that governments are acting in our best interests when they take us for granted, and governments are increasingly vigilant of popular agitations that decry their authority.
As a result: at home, we are witnessing an unprecedented increase in political polarization – an instance of which was the suffocating gridlock on Capitol Hill. Public trust in all institutions of authority – be it in the field of education, media, judiciary or healthcare – is rapidly dwindling.
And around the world, democracies are eroding every day as numerous countries embrace authoritarian models of governance. More intolerant and opaque governments are, the higher the risk of people losing their civil liberties. That we are amidst a contemporary crisis that cuts across every sector, structure and ideology, is undeniable
Ultimately, a groundbreaking political transition means little without a corresponding economic sea-change. Trickle-down economics continue to benefit wealthy businesses and individuals at the expense of middle and lower-income groups, via deregulatory measures such as tax cuts, capital gains, and dividends. Designed to put money into the hands of the wealthy in the hope that this would eventually trickle down, the policy has had the opposite effect. Not only have the rich become richer and the poor become poorer, but this has also happened faster than anyone could have imagined.
How to do away with inequality and distrust in a system that seems to automatically breed them? The answer is true democracy and a decentralized economy. The idea of eliminating distrust by closing the gap between people and their governments means that people fully and finally own the latter. And this is possible only when the government as a central authority has ceased to exist. At Independence, we project such a possibility: a world where the control is finally restored to 99%, and the only self-governing authority is a fully decentralized technology called the blockchain.
OUR DIGITAL ASSETS
OUR BETA PROJECTS
VA.org, our first Beta Project, is designed to empower veterans with employment and business opportunities via the setting-up of an advocacy platform, a blockchain-based social media platform and an incredible resources platform. In addition to our website being the go-to for everything veterans need: from loans and insurance to benefits and compensation, va.org hosts a variety of subdomains that cater to specific business verticals, while establishing unique partnerships among these to help veterans access skills, products, and emerging markets. In all of these, our commitment to bring veterans together, and creatively empower them to face common and specific challenges remains paramount.
Our second Beta Project, called djiboutian.com, is an action group committed to democracy in Djibouti.
Our aim is to actualize democracy in Djibouti via blockchain and other decentralized technologies — the first such implementation on a national scale, but one that would be drawn from prior experimentations in Sierra Leone and Colombo. This is to be accomplished via the setting-up of:
- blockchain-based social media to raise awareness and run campaigns for democracy and human rights.
- blockchain-based electronic voting to ensure safety, transparency, and greater enfranchisement.
We understand that the support of the international community is key in overseeing the transition, and have thus begun the process of drawing the world’s attention to the alarming human rights abuses under President Guelleh’s regime. For more information, see here
Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.
